【古民家の現場にて】戦時中のヘルメット

今日は大阪市内の古民家調査に。蔵の中で、戦時中に町内会で配っていたらしいというヘルメットというのか、鉄かぶと、を見せていただきました。左側のは鉄でなくて、プラスティック製ぽかったのですが、帰社してネットで調べると圧縮紙でつくられたカブトがあったとか。空襲のときとかどうしたんでしょうか。資源不足に陥った戦時中の様子を伝える一品かもしれません。

古民家再生工事に携わっていると、ふと昔の方の営みを手にする機会に恵まれます。

Today, I went to a Japanese traditional house in Osaka city. (There are less number of them in Osaka city than in Kyoto. Because almost all were burn out in the end of WW2.) Anyway, today’s client showed two helmets used by his mother and her family during WW2. Maybe for wearing it from bomb attacking. The right one in this photo was made of steel. But the left one was not. When I tapped on it, the sound of it was not obviously different from I thought. It was like sound from plastic toy helmet. After measuring this house, I googled about Japanese helmets in ww2. Then I got an information about it. Some kinds of helmets were made from plies of pressured papers….. It shows the lack of materials in japan around the end of WW2. For example, many bells were taken away to make weapons etc from many buddhism temples.
